The Towns County Mentor Program hosted their annual Winter Holiday Party on December 5, 2012. Mentors and Mentees spent this time together making holiday crafts and enjoying refreshments and a time of fellowship. The photos show some of the students with their mentors.
January is National Mentor Month: M = Memorable, E = Encouraging, N = Nurturing, T = Teaching, O = Opportunity, R = Rewarding
These are just some of the possibilities you will experience as a mentor.
The Towns County Mentor Program takes volunteers from the community and Young Harris College and matches them with students enrolled at Towns County Schools. During the school day, students and volunteers meet weekly for up to an hour on the school’s campus. This time is spent building friendships and providing role models to the students.
To become a mentor you must complete an application, consent to a criminal background and fingerprint check, and attend an orientation session.
You CAN make a difference in the life of a child, become a mentor. What a better way to start out the New Year!
